All Saints Day
On November 1, 2012 by LoriA Day of Remembrance
This day provides a chance to offer thanks for the work and witness of all Saints, recognizing that not all are known or specially celebrated.
All Saints Day is celebrated on November 1. Our school holds a Day of Remembrance Mass. They put up a Tree of remembrance with ornaments of all those who have gone before us. It’s a really wonderful idea where you order ornaments in advance of loved ones and they are recognized at mass that the while family can attend. Ornaments are then sent home with children to share at the Thanksgiving table and hang on the Christmas tree.
We take a moment early in the day to pick our favorite Saint from a sweet lil book we were given by a friend. Our children celebrate at school with mass and also do reports on the Saints leading up to today. St.Francis is a popular Saint among young ones, my sons class honored him and his works by adopting an animal shelter and bringing in toys, goods and food for all the shelter animals. They then have a mass in his honor.
Some of my favorite quotes come from a Saint…St. Catherine of Siena
“Be who God meant you to be and you will set the world on fire.”
“Proclaim the truth and do not be silent through fear.”
