Historical Moment with Family

Moments before stepping off a small metal platform high above New Mexico on Sunday, sky diver Felix Baumgartner offered a few static-filled words for posterity, “I wish the world could see what I can see. Sometimes you have to go really high to see how small you are.”

He then dove feet first from the edge of the capsule.

With his leap from 128,000 feet, Baumgartner becomes a larger-than-life figure in aerospace history, joining the ranks of those who also pushed personal and technological limits as they tempted fate and tested science.

His own family watched with delight.

Our whole family watched it live as well, as he reached 833.9 mph, or mach 1.24, which is faster than the speed of sound. No one had ever reached that speed wearing only a high-tech suit. The kids were amazed as he fell at supersonic speeds.  My eldest daughter keep yelling “he is about to go…here he goes…he is gonna do great, here he goes…”

At that moment, I watched in awe as my kids enjoyed this special moment in history together…another fine example that you can accomplish anything you want to do in life.

And even though he spun out of control for awhile, don’t we all have moments like that in life?  Then all at once, he got that spin under control and landed gracefully on his feet. What a lesson learned.  Fine job Mr Felix Baumgartner.  Fine job.
