On Saturday Chandler Harnish will arrive in California for the first time.   He will go to Disneyland, stay in beautiful Newport Beach in Orange County and have a series of events occur in his honor.  Who is Chandler Harnish…Mr.Irrelevent of course!

Founded by Paul Salata in 1976, Irrelevant Week is a 37-year-old philanthropic tradition within the Newport Beach community that commemorates the final National Football League draft pick.  During the summer following the draft, Mr. Irrelevant and his family are invited to participate in a host of events throughout Orange County.

This weeklong celebration of the Underdog includes a golf tournament, a regatta and a sports banquet, and are open to the public. The idea for this celebration was formulated in 1976 by Irrelevant Week’s founder and chief spokesperson, Paul Salata.

Salata, a former USC football standout and fan of the underdog, started the Irrelevant madness in 1976 when U. of Dayton wide receiver Kelvin Kirk was selected 487th and dead last by the Pittburgh Steelers..the rest is history.  This goodwill celebration has encouraged those last picks to strive harder..take a peek at the past recipients and their careers.
