Janet Evans Willson at Olympic Trials Today

Already A Success

Today, a friend will swim for so many of us.  She has done it before and will do it again… she made her goal of qualifying for the U.S. Trials in Omaha, Nebraska this week and Janet Evans Willson will certainly swim with pride today.

Watch it live or TIVO the Olympic Trials today as Janet goes for the 1 or 2 spot.  Evans returned to competitive swimming after a 15-year retirement because it was something she could do just for herself.  Don’t we all just want that “something for ourselves”?  If she makes the U.S. team, it will be wonderful.  But what is even greater is her determination to see what she had the power to do…body, mind and spirit.   The fact that she can still swim against 20-year-olds at Olympic trials,  break masters world records, swim close to times she was swimming when she was 20… she is shining like a star with all of us gazing at her next move in her 40’s- married with two beautiful children.

For me, she has been an inspiration – I admire her determination and love for the sport, herself, her family and her country.  And after this week is all said and done… Evans will keep doing what she does best…give of herself.   This Thursday, she will work with kids and bring attention to drowning prevention during this weeks “World’s Largest Swimming Lesson.” More than 30,000 kids worldwide will attempt to set a world record in an estimated 500 pools.  Amazing.  Click here for more on the comeback mom
