We Remember…
On May 28, 2012 by LoriMemorial Day…
Memorial Day is a day of remembering the men and women who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces.
Formerly known as Decoration Day, it originated after the American Civil war to commemorate the Union soldiers who died in the Civil War. By the 20th century Memorial Day had been extended to honor all Americans who have died in all wars.
The plots pictured are our grandparents family plots, who are local to us here in Newport Beach, CA. My side of the family plots (Ward) are in San Francisco. We visit often and the local mortuary is great about always having flags available to place at stones….anytime!
There are many services offered today at mortuaries, our boy scouts troop always kicks off the weekend with honoring those who have served us with planting a flag at their stone. Many people visit cemeteries and memorials, particularly to honor those who have died in military service.
Our children are not afraid to go visit great grandparents site, our faith believes their spirit is always with us, so we enjoy visiting their sites to pray, giggle, share stories of old and take some quiet time to remember them in a peaceful and beautiful setting. We also enjoy just being together with family and friends, appreciating our freedom.
God bless all our lives….enjoy each moment.
