Who is the Easter Bunny?

Here comes Peter Cottontail….

On Easter Sunday, many families will prepare to attend church in their Sunday best and celebrate Christ rising from the dead.  It will be the most beautiful and celebrated day for Catholics/Christians.

Before we put on our Easter Bonnet, many children will wake up to find that the Easter Bunny has left them baskets of candy. He has also hidden the eggs that they decorated earlier that week.  Who is this bunny anyway?

The Easter Bunny is a rabbit-spirit. Long ago, he was called the “Easter Hare”, hares and rabbits have frequent multiple births so they became a symbol of fertility. The custom of an Easter egg hunt began because children believed that hares laid eggs in the grass. The Romans believed that “All life comes from an egg.” Christians consider eggs to be “the seed of life” and so they are symbolic of the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

In our home, our Easter tradition has been going on for over 45 years.  The journey begins once you open your bedroom door.   An empty Easter basket is ready for you to fill.

On the command, you will begin loading all your goodies along your personal bunny trail made up of jelly beans…

which of course leads to a much grander basket…

Hint: Don’t pass up the tiny jellybeans for the big chocolate bunny (which my sister did all the time) Each color Jelly Bean has a value….from $.01 to $1.00…big time!

Happy Hopping!
