Thanksgiving Travel

Travel #8 Grateful

3 Things: Family, Macy’s Day Parade & Turkey.

My sister Leslie and I would wake up early every Thanksgiving morning, just so we could watch the Macy’s Day Parade live from New York!  The Floats, the Rockettes, the Ginormous balloons!

And the smells of Thanksgiving…. that Turkey cooking, the apple cider stewing on the stove….ohhhhhh how I can’t wait to enjoy!

Again, I will travel, cook, and be at the television early in the am with my sister, just so we can absorb that good ole feeling of Thanksgiving again.  God is good…so much to be grateful for this year.

And how about that Tryptophan-Induced Stupor?  Turkey does contain tryptophan, an amino acid which is a natural sedative. But tryptophan doesn’t act on the brain unless it is taken on an empty stomach with no protein present, and the amount gobbled even during a holiday feast is generally too small to have an appreciable effect. That lazy, lethargic feeling so many are overcome by at the conclusion of a festive season meal is most likely due to the combination of drinking alcohol and overeating a carbohydrate-rich repast…so everything in moderation people!

Gobble! Gobble!
