Love #6 The 12 Keys of Happiness

Unlock Your Values

Value: The regard that something is held to deserve; the importance or preciousness of something.

Teaching values at home can be challenging at times, but given a simple set of tools, patience and a lil guidance- you can make this effort a fun and educational one!

Everyday as I grow and learn, I am constantly reminded how important values are in ones life.  As I try to work on my own understanding, I work with my lil ones and my big one as well!

How?  I keep it simple, I use a set of keys! I literally attach a key to a value in my teaching at home.  I focus on one value each month and then attach it to these antique keys I purchased…sounds kinda corny… but it works with this motley crew.

For example, when you notice your child or spouse being compassionate, honor them and present them with the Key of Compassion. (BTW: Handing over a “Key” to Daddy in front of the kids is a big hit) Attach a ribbon or pin to the key to hang from, my daughter attaches her key onto her school backpack. ( I contact her teacher to see if she will notice the key and to ask Grace about it)

I allow them to keep it in their room, then they can turn it back into me the following week. This is just one idea. There are many ways to incorporate this into your lifestyle.

My twelve keys are: Commitment, Love, Perserverence, Compassion, Joy, Responsibility, Courage, Family, Patience, Honesty, Gratitude, Respect-just add your month next to the value- an example? November is Gratitude.

Any set of keys will work for this effort.  Find some at your local hardware store or the craft store will have fun designs to pick out. The set of keys I use are the following: Click here
